In today's edition of "kids say the darndest things", I had a student who walked into our second-period French class with only 10 minutes left in the period. I know that this student lives within walking distance. I also know this student is a great story-teller. Towards the end of the class period, while students were completing their final class activity, I went over to the late student eager to hear his excuse for today. He explained that he was late because "my turkey ran out of his cage". I was surprised and amused by this story.
"So I went to the slaughterhouse on Friday to pick up a guinea fowl and a turkey" he began. "I had the turkey in a cage in my living room. This morning, my grandma woke me up and yelled 'the bird is out of its cage!' So I got up and went running around outside my house to find the turkey. Then my grandpa woke up and yelled 'what's going on here?' Then I told him about the turkey. So anyway, that's why I was late this morning".
I couldn't help but laugh and while he showed me a photo as evidence of the turkey, I'm not sure what to believe. If a turkey eats his homework next, I'll have to get to the bottom of it. Happy Monday to all and watch out for running turkeys!
Well now you have heard it all! I guess if he made it past the office with that excuse, it held some credibility? Haha.
ReplyDeleteHaha yes definitely strange! Thanks for reading Sarah!
DeleteI was trying to figure out if he told you everything in French...? It does sound far-fetched to get them from a slaughterhouse?!
ReplyDeleteHaha I wish but it was just in English! Thanks for reading!
DeleteI absolutely love this post! I've seen turkeys on the way to school. It's real!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading Angelina! Very strange for me as an NYC teacher but I think it was real!
DeleteThis is the best excuse I've ever heard! Wish I could see the photo evidence, too! Thanks for the smile!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the viral video from this past week showing the turkey acting as the crossing guard for the rest of his "rafter"? (Yeah, that's what a group of turkeys is officially called -- a "rafter"! I looked it up.) It's hilarious; you should show it your Slaughterhouse Student!
